John Rollins studied philosophy at Harvard University in 1986 where he achieved a 4.0 GPA and received his B.A. in philosophy and economics from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri in 1987. He attended law school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and received his Juris Doctorate in 1991. At UMKC, he was recognized as the most outstanding overall competitor in both the Appellate Advocacy and Trial Advocacy programs and represented the school on a national level in both the National Moot Court Competition and the National Trial Advocacy Competition.

John became an associate with the defense firm of Brown & James, P.C. in 1991. Brown & James is the largest firm in the State of Missouri dedicated exclusively to trial practice and has an extensive defense practice in Missouri, Illinois and Kansas. As an associate in the Kansas City office of Brown & James, John was responsible for the defense of a wide variety of cases in both Kansas and Missouri. He was responsible for all of Brown & James appellate work and all of its medical and legal malpractice defense in the western half of Missouri and the entire state of Kansas.

In 1992, John received the prestigious David J. Dixon Award which is awarded annually to the best young appellate attorney in the State of Missouri. He is the youngest recipient in the history of the award.

In June of 1997, John left Brown & James and co-founded Houske & Rollins, P.C. where he focused his practice on helping accident victims and the victims of medical negligence. He has worked exclusively as a plaintiff's attorney since 1997. Throughout his entire practice at Houske & Rollins, John worked closely with Kenner & Kavanaugh, P.C. on numerous cases, including serving as Kenner & Kavanaugh's "local counsel" on the firm's Kansas cases. In January of 2007, John joined Kenner & Kavanaugh, P.C. as a shareholder. On January 1, 2008, John started the Rollins Law Firm.

John has extensive trial experience and has tried cases to jury verdict in the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri (Western and Central Divisions), the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri (Kansas City and Independence), the District Court of Wyandotte County, Kansas, the District Court of Johnson County, Kansas. He also has extensive appellate experience having briefed and argued cases in the Missouri Court of Appeals, the Missouri Supreme Court, the Federal Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
